Mathematics Mastery: Bridging Mathematical Literacy and Citizenship Education
The eTwinning project, founded by Yunus Emre Anadolu Lisesi from Turkiye, will be carried out with 7 schools from Spain, Croatia, Poland and Portugal and students between the ages of 16-19.
The main aim of new eTwining project is to promote the development of mathematical literacy and citizenship education among participating students.
Members will be able to engage in active citizenship and critical thinking skills as they work together in a variety of activities that appear to serve mathematical literacy.
The “Mathematics Mastery: Bridging Mathematical Literacy and Citizenship Education” eTwinning project will implement monthly “Mathematical Citizenship Academy” activities framed within the pedagogical approach of the Protege Effect, attributed to the Roman philosopher Seneca. This method positions all participants as both learners and educators, fostering a dual process of teaching and learning. By engaging in this dynamic, students and educators alike will deepen their understanding of mathematical literacy and citizenship education.
In project activities, we will force students to mathematically interpret daily objects and situations and to solve analytical problems. In this process, students will learn to work together by collaborating directly with other students from different countries while finding solutions using mathematical algorithms and logical reasoning, learn how to analyze information from different sources, and develop a stronger sense of European community by realizing the diversity of the EU. In fact, we will perform latent learning.
They will also have developed problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity skills, which are fundamental to success in the constantly evolving world.
This eTwinning project offers a unique opportunity for students to explore mathematical thinking in a practical and meaningful way, preparing them for the challenges of the 21st century.
It also underlines the need to promote common citizenship values by involving young people in various decision-making processes.
Schools are a universe where young people learn to be active and responsible citizens through their daily experiences. We will focus on opportunities for students to participate in project management in our eTwinning project, which we will carry out in our schools, which contribute significantly to the development of citizenship knowledge and skills.
